Mental Health Techs (Therapeutic Assistants) are responsible for providing support and supervision to patients and ensuring that a safe environment is maintained within the treatment facility. MHT’s (TA’s) supervise and provide meal support to patients during all eating opportunities; supervise and lead milieu activities (as appropriate); transport and supervise patients on outings; and provide skills coaching when appropriate. MHT’s (TA’s) are responsible for communicating with the clinical team regarding patient needs and behaviors, and maintaining clinical documentation as needed.



MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Essential responsibilities of this position including significant MHT’s (TA’s), responsibilities and projects)

• Provide a positive environment for supportive, recovery-based treatment.

• Maintain appropriate, therapeutic boundaries with patients and families at all times.

• Consumes all assigned meals (snacks, etc.) with patients and/or families to model normalized eating behavior, while on shift. As this is a therapeutic intervention, meals must include the basic plating requirements of the patient meal and utilize the items provided on the hot and cold bars, or a fully plated meal in kitchen/restaurant (as appropriate).

• Supervise, support, and monitor patients during eating opportunities (meals, snacks, etc.), hygiene, and bathroom activities.

• Document observations of behavior (meals, input/output, self-injurious behaviors, etc.) in a clear, concise, professional and timely manner.

• Transport and supervise patients on outings and outdoor recreation

• Engage in de-escalation techniques with patients, as needed and appropriate.

• Assist with crisis management with patients, as needed.

• Participate in Shift Leader, Cohort Coordinator, and Floater responsibilities, as assigned.

• Participate in shift reports to share information, and problem-solve with MHT (TA) and Nursing staff.

• Communicate with Clinical and Treatment team as needed to provide updates regarding patient behavior or other notable changes.

• Attend mandatory MHT (TA) meetings and trainings to ensure consistent patient care and compliance requirements.

• Receive clinical supervision from IP/RES Manager if asked to co-lead activity or therapeutic groups, as appropriate.

• Maintain strong confidentiality practices.

• Other duties as assigned



Experience

• 1 year of previous experience with Eating Disorders or mental health service/field in a position comparable to a Therapeutic Assistant (including, but not limited to Case Management, Group Home, inpatient/residential) to include patient and family interaction, required.

• Understanding of Eating Disorders, preferred

• Understanding of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and/or Family Based Therapy (FBT), preferred. Specific skills (Include specific skills and knowledge necessary to meet the objectives of the position)

• Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred.

• Superior customer service and communication skills.

• Basic computer knowledge; Microsoft Outlook; and other electronic platforms.

• Ability to stay calm and solution-focused in high stress situations.

• Personable, reliable, flexible

• High degree of self-motivation and ability to multi-task.

• Ask for help or feedback, as appropriate

• Strong interpersonal and professional boundaries.

• Strong time management and organizational skills. General Skills and Requirements

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• Demonstrate competency and sensitivity in the area of multi-cultural, racial, religious/spiritual, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues.

• Meets dress code standards; appearance is professional, neat, and clean.

• This position may require driving a company vehicle. Employee must have a clean driving record in order to qualify. (A clean driving record is one that is free of accidents, moving violations or points.)
