The Salvation Army, an internationally; recognized non-profit faith based organization, has a temporary job opening for a Camp Female Counselor/Music Instructor (Music Conservatory) for Camp Grandview, located in Jasper, Georgia.


Job Summary

Plans, implements, coordinates, and supervises an assigned group of children and youth; promotes quality of programs and safety of campers at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to campers; promotes and stimulates camper participation; coordinates and leads campers through their daily schedule ensuring punctuality and responsibility; supervises campers during unscheduled program time and evenings; ensures compliance with camp rules and regulations at all times.  Incumbent also functions as a music instructor to assist and support the musical component of the Camp program.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development.  Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff.  Knowledge of the principles and practices of music education.  Ability to teach classes in a group setting.  Ability to teach students music theory.  Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, and supervise children and youth programs and activities.  Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth.  Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.  Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood and youth programs and activities. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.  Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.  Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.  Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.  Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.


Education and Experience

Six months experience teaching child development or youth programs in a church preferred; six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities


CPR and First Aid Certification


Physical Requirement and Working Conditions

Some physical requirements of the Camp Conservatory Female Counselor/ Music Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate activities are required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available.  Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 4 – 9, 2019 and participation is MANDATORY.


The 2019 Summer Camp program will be held June 10 – July 14, 2019.

Compensation: $300.00 per week; eligible for a $550.00 bonus.  In order to receive the bonus must complete the entire duration of the program and remain in the position initially hired into.  If there is a change in position, the bonus will be forfeited.
