INTERNSHIP - Land Use Technician - Summer 2019

 

The Land Use Technician internship within the Kenosha County Division of Planning and Development is designed to give a hands-on experience to college-level students who are interested in pursuing a future career in planning and development, local or regional public service, or affiliated organizations after their graduation.

 

This is a summer intern position that will work both independently and as a team member.  The intent of this internship will be to collect information and process new zoning violations as well as a backlog of existing violations.  The intern will perform general site inspections for Site Plan Review and Certificates of Compliance, as well as other duties that may be assigned.  The intern will work under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Part-time, 20 hours per week from June through August and possibly beyond.

  • Work must be performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

  • Internship start/end dates as well as weekly schedule are flexible.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process new and backlog of zoning violations.

  • Perform initial and follow-up site inspections and take photographs of violations, Certificates of Compliance and Site Plan Review.

  • Perform data input in zoning violation software program.

  • Process notices and potential citations for new and backlog of existing violations.

  • Provide good customer service at all times.

  • Travel to/from meetings and inspections at various locations.

  • Interact with the public, employees, and others in a positive and appropriate manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses or Certifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency, with acceptable driving record.

 

Other Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.

  • Must be a college student pursuing a degree in the areas of community, economic, land use, environmental, urban, transportation, housing development and/or planning, or similar degree program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The intern must understand the potential hazards of working around street intersections, and work safely along streets and properties.

  • Work will be performed both in the field and in the office.
