The Kenosha County Parks Division is accepting applications for Long-Term Seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers to work at one of the several County Parks for the 2019 season.

 

Under general supervision, long-term seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers are responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly park.  We are looking for hardworking and self-motivating individuals to assist in the maintenance of the County Parks and to maintain a safe environment, enforce rules, and consistently act in a manner that earns and merits the respect and confidence of patrons.  This includes, at a minimum, being consistent and polite, treating patrons with courtesy and respect in all matters, and abiding by applicable regulations concerning behavior.

 

 

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Long-term seasonal employees generally work from March through November.  This time frame is approximate based on weather and other factors.

  • The work hours are typically Monday through Friday from 6:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.  Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mow and maintain turf in parks.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on small and midsize equipment.

  • Operate all vehicles and equipment as assigned.

  • Perform general maintenance of buildings, park grounds, flower beds, athletic fields, parkways, and dog parks.

  • Assist in forestry operations, including tree removal.

  • Haul and transport equipment.

  • Apply herbicides and pesticides.

  • Remove snow – plow and shovel.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • One year of experience in maintenance of any of the following: parks, facilities, roadways, construction, or golf course.

 

Licenses or Certifications

  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency.

  • Acceptable driving record.

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B (no air brake restriction) preferred. 

  • Valid Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator: Turf and Landscape certification preferred.

 

Other Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.

Knowledge of:

  • General maintenance work with the most efficient utilization of equipment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate construction and grounds equipment.

  • Safety precautions and procedures applicable to maintenance equipment.

 

Skill in:

  • The use of small hand tools and cleaning equipment.

  • Outdoor semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to ground and facilities maintenance.

 

Ability to:

  • Accept, understand, and follow written and/or verbal instruction.

  • Work with limited oversight on projects and daily assignments.

  • Work in confined spaces.

  • Work independently to meet deadlines.

  • Work effectively and harmoniously with the public, employees, and others.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work outside in any weather conditions, including temperature extremes.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Oral Interview - Qualifying

  • Background Check - Qualifying

  • Physical Examination, including drug screen - Qualifying
