ISO New England oversees the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six-states of New England and administers the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for the buying and selling of wholesale electricity. The power system is constantly evolving as new technologies emerge and energy policies evolve. There is a lot going on at our organization behind the scenes to make sure the grid continuously yields reliable electricity at competitive prices while addressing the unique challenges that come along with our industry.
Intern: Operations Support
Minimum Education Level: Rising Junior
Preferred Majors: Electrical Engineering
The department performs engineering studies and analysis to determine operating limits for use by the ISO NE control room operators for operating the transmission system.
What will you be working on:
The intern will continue data gathering and analysis efforts begun by past interns, will maintain a key restoration one-line for the system restoration group, and become involved in ongoing analysis of system performance on key stability limited interfaces.
How will you make an impact:
- Assisting in maintaining the load power factor tool created by a past intern.
- Maintaining a restoration one-line.
- Learning the skills to help maintain an on-line stability database and use it to test / validate stability limits used.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we look for in a candidate:
- Math / computing skills.
- Solid understanding of Excel / spreadsheets
To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
