ISO New England oversees the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six-states of  New England and administers the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for the buying and selling of wholesale electricity. The power system is constantly evolving as new technologies emerge and energy policies evolve. There is a lot going on at our organization behind the scenes to make sure the grid continuously yields reliable electricity at competitive prices while addressing the unique challenges that come along with our industry.

Department description:
 

The Power System Modeling Department is tasked with design, testing and implementation of power system model changes to the ISO Energy Management System (EMS) with focus on power system applications, including power flow, state estimation, contingency analysis, and markets applications.

What will you be working on:
 

Assisting Power System Modeling with data handling, updating the New England model, creating planning study cases for Transmission Owners, updating generation profiles by collating data from various sources and reviewing and maintaining contingencies, project data, load profiles and resource data.

How will you make an impact:

 
Uploading the above mentioned data to Model On Demand application and the Basecase Database and maintain it. Assisting MOD Engineers with routine data-intensive tasks related to steady state and stability cases. Performing preliminary review of modeling data received to correct gross data, syntax and convention errors

What we look for in a candidate:
  • This position requires excellent analytical skills, and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, and also to complete tasks independently.   
  • Graduate student in power systems with B.S. in Electrical Engineering Major preferred. Will consider E.E. with Power System Engineering Concentration.
  • PSS/E experience 

To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
