Engineer IV - Nano-electronic Device Engineering

Education desired: Ph.D. in physics or electrical engineering, with a strong emphasis on semiconductor processing and device physics.

Essential job functions: Must be able to lead and drive creative focused R&D efforts involving design and fabrication of nano-scale quantum-effect semiconductor devices. Contribute to technology development by designing novel device layouts, design and execute e-beam lithography experiments to fabricate devices, analyze fabrication, process-control and electrical data to inform layout designs and experiments. Create phenomenological and/or physics based models as needed to guide device development. Develop, conduct, and analyze laboratory experiments, write and edit effective research reports, and collaborate and communicate with team members in a goal-driven development effort. Present ideas and results in effective technical presentations and write technical papers and contribute to research proposals. 

Experience Desired: The ideal candidate for this position will have 3-7 years hands on experience in the semiconductor industry. Experience in wafer process development for innovative device fabrication in class-10 or better clean-room facilities is desired. Experience with wafer fabrication equipment including CVD/PECVD deposition, RIE/ICP etching, ALD deposition, ion implantation, CMP, and other modern nano-fabrication techniques is desired.Experience with nano-scale semiconductor device design including CAD layout is desired. Experience with statistical analysis tool including JMP work is desired. Electrical characterization and statistical analysis of nano-scale semiconductor devices is desired. Experience with electron beam lithography equipment and knowledge of electron-beam patterning. Specific experience with Leica/Raith EBPG 5000 Series direct-write electron beam systems is a plus. Experience with Cadence Virtuoso for CAD layout and e-beam direct-write data preparation using the GenISYS BEAMER software is a plus. Experience with device simulation tools including Synopsys and Silvaco is plus.
Experience with electromagnetic modeling tools such as HFSS, Sonnet, Momentum, Q3D is plus. Must have authored scientific publications and given technical presentations. History of demonstrated technical innovation is desirable. Training in safe-handling of laboratory chemicals is a plus.

Knowledge desired: In-depth knowledge of semiconductor device physics and materials and fabrication techniques. Ability to relate basic material and physical characteristics to device performance is essential. Strong knowledge design of experiment techniques and of statistical methods for analyzing and correlating experimental processing data with measured electrical data. Knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and processing equipment in modern semiconductor processing. 

Essential Physical/Mental requirements: Must be able to work safely in laboratory settings including semiconductor processing and materials growth areas, device testing, and clean room facilities. 

Special requirements: U.S. citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
