Engineer V - Wafer Processing

EDUCATION DESIRED:

Bachelor, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Material Sciences.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Lead a team of engineers in processing advanced III-V IR detector arrays for R&D and production fabrication in a high-mix technology fab.  This position includes some hands-on processing as well as mentoring engineers in all aspects of front-end fabrication, hybridization and testing.

Duties include: working with program managers to define HRL’s IR-FPA roadmaps in R&D and production fabrication; allocation of resources and prioritization of assigned work; ownership of project deliverables; working with the Equipment Support Group and external vendors to keep tools mission ready; mentoring staff members in technical excellence; leading capital acquisition projects and performing factory and final tool evaluations; leading team in generation of IP; participation in marketing and new business development; technically represent IR-FPA processing in inter-lab meetings; developing and executing engineering experiments for improved quality; write, edit and approve documented procedures/travelers; recording, analyzing data, and presenting results; develop and create theoretical models and curve fits to interpret empirical data; maintaining process control of supported processes; and developing and communicating options for IR-FPA processes for new fabrication needs to HRL program managers.
 

KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:

The ideal applicant will have knowledge of, and hands on experience with, IR-FPA processes including:  lithography (EBeam and Photo), PECVD/ALD deposition, metallization, liftoff process, wet and dry etching, hybridization and testing.  This candidate will have a deep understanding of underlying physical principals of III-V detector array processes. This candidate will also have broad knowledge of lithography, etch, deposition and metallization tools used in III-V and/or MEMS wafer foundries. Good understanding of statistical and analytical sciences as applied to process control.
 

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

10+ years’ hands-on experience on tools required for III-V detector array processing.  Experience working in Class 10 cleanroom facilities.  Experience in the use of optical, analytical SEM and CDSEM, metrology to maintain quality of pattern resolution and alignment. Experienced in root cause analysis and correction of processing issues.  Ability to correlate observed pattern defects to tool health. Experience in using statistical process control methods to ensure process quality.

Experience leading others is preferred, either in a project leadership role or in a direct line management role. Proven track record of collaborating across organizational boundaries, demonstrating ownership, demonstrating a high quality standard, track record of driving projects to conclusion, and experience achieving similar results through others.  Experience working in an AS9100 Quality Management System production environment is a plus.
 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, verbal and written communication, interaction with customers/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity. Must be able to work within a class 10 Cleanroom. Must be able to work safely with and around potentially toxic and hazardous materials, chemicals and gases.
 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (e.g. driver’s license, special tools or restrictions): U.S. citizenship required.
