Director, Human Resources
EDUCATION DESIRED: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, related discipline, or at least 5 years experience in a senior human resources position required. Master’s Degree a plus. Professional certification (SHRM-SCP, WAW-CCP, IFEBP-CEBS) a significant plus.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Director of Human Resources will have primary responsibility for strategy, development, deployment, and maintenance of leadership, career development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness tools and processes, employee relations, labor relations, compensation, benefits, diversity & inclusion, Federal, State, and local compliance with labor laws, etc. The Director will manage a team that currently is five positions (four currently filled), as well as supplementary labor and consultants as needed. • Leads in the development and planning, management, and implementation of procedures to produce effective and efficient management of employee/labor relations activities. • Provides advice and counsel to managers, supervisors and employees regarding current HR industry trends and current laws, regulations, policies, CBAs, procedures and practices related to employee/labor relations matters. • Facilitates communication and resolution of employee issues and concerns in conjunction with employees and management by providing guidance and consultation regarding problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, litigation avoidance and strives to resolve internal conflict informally through appropriate conflict management and mediation techniques. • Provides counsel to senior HRL management in the area of diversity and inclusion, and labor law compliance. • Leads the administration of compensation programs, including base pay and variable pay, and benefits programs. • Through the use of internal and external benchmarks, and in consultation with HRL management, ensure pay programs are market relevant to attract and retain top talent and recommend necessary changes, as appropriate, to establish and maintain competitive pay for all employees. • Advises the HRL Board of Directors on CEO compensation. • Leads the design, development and monitoring of employee engagement efforts. • Oversees HRL’s talent acquisition and on-boarding processes • Leads continuous improvement in HRL’s performance management system, oversees their implementation, and assesses their effectiveness • Leads the design, development, and facilitation of innovative leadership development programs for all levels that align with current and evolving business strategy and objectives. • Manages the succession planning efforts at HRL. • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with third party providers in support of best-in-class, cost-effective, enterprise-wide development solutions.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Five (5) years or more of Human Resource experience with three (3) years or more of leadership experience including executive level strategic planning, progressive talent recruitment, management and development, and HR activities that include employee relations, labor relations, compensation and benefit plans, policy compliance, diversity & inclusion, etc. Experience with planning, creating, implementing and/or managing high-potential and leadership program including performance management and succession planning; Experience in quantitative analysis and reporting; Coaching and mentoring experience a plus; Labor contract administration/negotiation experience a plus; Experience with a cadre of Ph.D. thru BS level scientists and engineers a plus.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Human Resources principles and best practices; understanding of industry trends and employment legislation. Executive-level presentation skills / facilitation skills; ability to train and coach others; detail-oriented, excellent planning and organization skills, strong project management skills, business acumen,ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; adept at establishing partnerships and building relationships; ability to think strategically and critically in developing practical solutions; must interface effectively and communicate convincingly with professional at all levels, including executive leadership; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong problem solving skills; proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. High level of proficiency with HR information systems required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel as needed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: U.S. citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Active security clearance a plus.
