Section Lead - Dry Etch & Deposition
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related fields or equivalent experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Become a member of a team that produces the world’s fastest GaN transistors and MMIC’s as well as quantum nanoelectronic devices. Lead a team of 8-10 engineers in the Dry-Etch and Deposition group of the Microfabrication Technology Laboratory.
Troubleshoot problems and develop solutions for tool and process issues in a high-mix R&D and low-volume production, microelectronics environment. Job functions will include: Hands-on fabrication and processing of III-V (GaAs, InP, GaN, etc.) and silicon materials, associated dielectrics and metals within a Dry Etch and Deposition module; mentoring staff members in technical excellence; allocating resources and prioritization of assigned work; working with the Equipment Support Group and external vendors to keep Etch/Deposition tools mission ready; working with program managers to define HRL’s Etch/Deposition roadmap; leading capital acquisition projects; developing, assigning and executing engineering experiments for improved quality; maintaining existing processes; recording, analyzing data, and presenting results; maintaining process control of supported processes; developing and communicating options for Dry Etch and Deposition processes for new microfabrication needs to HRL program managers.
5+ years hands-on experience in processing of semiconductor devices and circuits, with an emphasis in dry etching (ICP/RIE/Bosch), and PECVD/ALD deposition. Experience supervising small group of technicians and engineers.Expert user of a variety of dry etch, deposition and inspection tools. Candidates should possess a proven track record of developing novel and successful solutions to complex technical issues.Experience in dry etch processes on a diversity of substrates including, but not limited to, InP, GaAs, GaN, Si and Quartz, and a diversity of etch chemistries. Experienced in root cause analysis and correction of dry etch or deposition problems. Ability to correlate observed defects to tool health. Experience in using statistical process control methods to ensure process quality.Experience working in an AS9100 Quality Management System production environment is a plus.
Knowledge of semiconductor processing and devices with a focus in dry etching and deposition. Computer skills using Excel, Powerpoint, and Word. Use of standard processing and analytical tools (profilometry, microscopes, and SEM) and standard scientific software programs (JMP).
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity. Must be able to work within a class 10 Cleanroom. Must be able to work safely with and around potentially toxic and hazardous materials, chemicals and gases. Good hand eye coordination. Must be a self-starter, be able to work with little supervision, and perform strongly in a team environment.
