The San Angelo Standard-Times, part of the USA TODAY Network, seeks an energetic, curious, inquisitive, deep thinker who digs beyond the headlines and cares enough about the audience to answer the mantra: So what, who cares, what does it mean?
This reporter is dedicated to watchdog journalism and can tell stories beyond meeting coverage.
This is a job for a reporter who can cut through insider baseball to shed light on how all levels of government impact everyday lives. This reporter keeps an eye on the big picture of topics our audience cares most about and produces analytic, enterprise and investigative stories.
Applicants should have experience acquiring and analyzing data and obtaining exclusive information through filing public records requests.
We’re looking for someone who can develop a deep network of sources, has a skill for storytelling and enjoys working with a team. Someone who will break big news and hold public officials accountable.
If you still have a million questions after learning the “who, what, when, where and how,” and have the drive to quickly and effectively get the answers, then this job is for you.
Handle daily assignments and provide daily coverage of key events and issues.
Provide quick analysis that helps readers know “what this really means.”
Work on enterprise and investigative projects
Create storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages
Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
Work with the news director to evaluate what's working and what's not and develop plans to better satisfy audience needs.
Journalism/newsroom experience is required
This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law
Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required
