The Arizona Republic/, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a VR/AR Developer-Artist to join our newsroom for a long-term special project focused on bioscience and technology. The work will involve collaborating with a reporter and our newsroom-wide team – in a Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom full of reporters, photographers, producers and editors devoted to great work that serves the greater good.

To put it simply, you’ll use your cutting-edge skills and interests to advance serious journalism. You’ll be working closely with a multimedia reporter on this beat, but also with the wider newsroom.

The right candidate will be excited to take on the challenge of defining the future of interactive media, and ready to be a champion of that in our newsroom. The job involves close collaboration with a variety of other disciplines, so the ideal candidate will be in Phoenix or willing to relocate, but remote work or telecommuting will be considered. The full-time position is grant-funded for 18 months, with the potential for employment beyond then.

Because this is an emerging field, we welcome applicants who can show us they have the technical skills to make creative, engaging, interesting visual journalism in new and different ways. This could go beyond virtual reality into augmented reality and other forms of immersive journalism.
