The Marketing Manager will be responsible for supporting the overall Marketing efforts of The Tulsa World Media Company to increase market visibility, advance brand awareness as well as acquisition & retention of new customers & readers in a manner that demonstrates ethical business practices and respectful professionalism. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Advertising of the Tulsa World Media Company.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and lead team in the execution of the overall marketing (both annual and strategic) that leads to increased market visibility, improved brand awareness, increased retention of existing customers, and improvement in the acquisition rate of new customers.

  2. Prepare annual strategic marketing and research plans.

  3. Supervise the assembly, processing, dissemination, interpretation, and management of primary research conducted annually by the newspaper to benefit sales efforts.

  4. Ensure market research deliverables are provided in a complete and timely manner.

  5. May oversee development and implementation of TWMC Niche products & events, including TWM.

  6. Works with Advertising, News & Circulation to develop ongoing strategic and tactical marketing programs designed to meet departmental and organizational goals & objectives.

  7. Works with community nonprofits & Advertising to review, guide and implement various trade agreements in accordance with our overall marketing & community mission.

  8. Works with Circulation on customer acquisition and retention activities (kiosk group) which may include but is not limited to overseeing the communication between departments, finding opportunities to send kiosk representation to planned events, negotiating in-kind ad trade agreements.

  9. Participates in civic and professional activities, which promote the image of the company and at the same time contributes to individual development.

  10. Foster a professional, service-oriented, and collaborative work ethic to customers, peers, and staff.

  11. Represent the Company in a positive and productive manner to employees and the community.

  12. Develop and implement business case based process for continually improving all department efforts.

  13. Keeps current on the various advertising and marketing disciplines and their applications and maintains a current understanding of changes and new developments in local and national advertising market share analysis, and in cultural, economic, retail, demographic, advertising, technological and employment trends.

  14. Operate in an ethical manner and strictly adhere to all laws and regulations.

  15. Perform and execute all work practices in a safe manner that contributes to a safe work environment.  Constant safety awareness is mandatory for all employees.

  16. Manage department employees which may include but is not limited to: interviewing, hiring, performance assessment, training, seeking input, and providing regular communication.

  17. In cooperation with senior management from the Finance Department, develop and adhere to department budgets.

  18. Prepare department performance and status reports with explanations for deviations and variances on a regular basis for senior management.

  19. On-site, regular and reliable attendance is required.

  20. Must possess a current Driver’s License and safely drive to and from various locations.

  21. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills through interaction with all areas & levels within the company. 

  22. Ability to react to change effectively and productively and handle other essential duties as requested.
     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university (marketing degree preferred) or at least five years experience at the manager or supervisor level.

  2. Experience developing and executing marketing plans for a media company desired.

  3. Experience with both print and digital platforms.

  4. Excellent MS Excel skills.

  5. Experience with social media and email marketing required.
