The mission of Associated Students Peak Adventures department is to enrich the Sacramento State learning experience through adventure education and leadership development. ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.
Rate: $13.00 to $14.00/HR
 
SUMMARY:
 
Under the general supervision of the Peak Adventures Outdoor Adventures Manager, the Head Raft Guide is responsible for providing a positive experience for rafting trip participants. The Head Raft Guide manages the navigation, participant needs and group dynamic for their own raft of 3-7 people while also overseeing the operation of the trip as a whole. The Head Raft Guide is to provide exemplary customer service, oversee risk management decisions, ensures trip operational needs are met and may drive the company 12 passenger van. A typical Head Raft Guide may work 1-15 trips per season. This position reports to work at Camp Lotus (5461 Bassi Rd, Lotus, CA 95651).
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
•Oversee 2 to 7 rafts and 8 to 50 participants.
•Assess and make decisions about on and off water risk management as it pertains to managing their boat and the overall operations of the rafting activity, adhering to the standard operating procedures.
•Ensure completed documentation for participants and other compliance reporting. 
•Supervise and manage participants and raft guides.
•Oversee group dynamics such as participant interactions within the group as well as interactions between participants and others outside the group to promote a positive experience for all.
•Operation of 14 ft paddle raft on the South Fork of the American River with 3 to 7 participants ranging from age 9 to adult.
•Follow all California State Rules and Regulations surrounding vehicle operation.
•Load and unload of equipment and supplies.
•Understand and adhere to requirements/restrictions for trip location.
•Manage first aid needs.
•May operate a 12 passenger van and perform safety inspection on assigned vehicle to be used if incumbent has a Class C Driver License. Notify supervisor of any vehicle deficiencies.  
•Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
•Must meet Sacramento State student assistant eligibility requirements
•Current CPR certification
•Current First Aid certification
•Completed Peak Adventures Head Guide Skills Checklist
•Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and be prepared for both heat and cold
•Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds assisted
•Must attend Peak Adventures Guide School (or equivalent)
•Must provide comprehensive outdoor experience log
•Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
•Ability to work evenings, weekends, overnights as well as overtime
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
• Swift Water Rescue Technician (or equivalent) certification 
•Current Wilderness First Aid or higher certification
•California Commercial driver’s license (Class C or higher) with a passenger endorsement and meet ASI driving requirements
