POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

Position Title:                        Tooling
Buyer/Inventory Control

Department:                          Manufacturing

Reports to:                             Manufacturing Support Supervisor

FLSA Classification:            Exempt

 

SUMMARY:   Support manufacturing processes through
continuous improvement, technical problem solving, tooling delivery and
availability.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  Include the following – other duties may be
assigned:

 

 

  • Reviews
         process and machine layouts and tooling. 
        
    Recommends process or tooling changes.

 

  • Assists
         with coordinating tool room activities, supervising tool crib employees, and
         controlling and reducing the overall cost of tooling. 

 

  • Maintains
         accurate tooling inventory and assists in establishing MIN/MAX levels.

 

  • Research
         and certify new vendors and suppliers for tooling and equipment purchases.
          Coordinate with certified vendors
         for the timely and cost effective delivery of tooling requirements.

 

  • Facilitate
         problem solving and cost reduction activities on existing jobs.

 

  • Monitor
         industry trends in information, technology, and concepts affecting tooling
         design/functionality and process flow. 
        

 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE:

BS degree in manufacturing or mechanical
engineering or a related technical field a plus, and 5 years of related tooling
buying/inventory control experience, preferably in a process-oriented
operation.  A combination of education,
training and experience equivalent may also be accepted.  Experience with steel in a TS-16949 manufacturing
environment, metal specifications, tolerances and a material is preferred.  

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and
divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, and to interpret
engineering specifications.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Knowledge and ability to use personal
computer equipment, as well as shop floor work station equipment.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS,
Internet, E-mail, Spreadsheet and Word Processing software programs a must.  Working knowledge of CAD software, computerized
MRP systems and SPC software a plus.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to effectively communicate with customers,
suppliers and co-workers verbally, in writing, and through e-mail.  Ability to effectively interpret customer product
specifications and drawings.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a Process and Customer
Service orientation with high attention to detail.    Problem solving skills in relation to root
cause identification and resolution of customer manufacturing needs and issues.

While performing the duties of this
position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; talk; use hands to
finger, handle or feel objects and materials; reach with hands and arms; operate
a computer with keyboard and mouse; and stoop, kneel, crouch or sit.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or
move metal parts weighing from .5 to 20 lbs. for process and tooling review.  Specific vision abilities required by this
position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability
to adjust focus, and the ability to identify differences in colors.

 

The employee must be able to wear
required Personal Protective Equipment while in the manufacturing facility.  PPE
includes safety glasses, protective gloves, steel-toed shoes and hearing
protection.

 

The work schedule for this position
includes working day shift for 8 – 12 hours per day, 5 - 6 days per week.  May require travel to vendor locations.
